The Florence Men’s Choral Society was founded by Julian Young and Mark Railey in 2007.  It was the desire of the founders that the society be a 501(C)3 not-for-profit community music organization dedicated to the performance of high quality music in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina.  A Board of Directors meets on a quarterly basis to help guide the development of the society.  The members of the Board read like a who’s who of influential leaders in the Florence community.

In 2008, Mark Railey founded the Palmetto State Boys Choir, initially as a pilot program.  The boys enjoyed a Saturday Summer Music Camp for 10 weeks in 2009.  Then in September of that year, the Palmetto State Boys Choir launched it’s first official season.  In the Fall/Christmas Season 2009, the boys choir performed over 15 concerts.  During the season, the boys enjoyed a field trip to Raleigh, NC to hear the Vienna Boys Choir in concert.  In January, the boys will enjoy a field trip to Lake City, SC to hear the American Boyschoir in concert.  This field trip include the opportunity for several of the boys to audition for the choir from Princeton.
